Pagunuangan Bukik Barisan adolah rangkaian gunuang di sisi barat Pulau Sumatera tabantang nandari ujuang utara (Aceh) sampai ujuang selatan (Lampung) Pulau sarato mampunyoi panjang labiah kurang 1.650 km. Rangkaian gunuang ko mampunyoi puncak tatinggi di Gunuang Kurinci nan talatak di pabatasan Sumatera Barat jo Jambi nan tingginyo 3.805 meter di ateh pamukoan lauik. Bukik Barisan talatak di dakek patamuan antaro lempeng tektonik Eurasia jo Australia.

Dalam bantangan Bukik Barisan ado banyak gunuang barapi nan basalimuik hutan rimbo, tamasuk hutan pinus tropis Sumatera di lereang nan labiah tinggi.[1] Taman Nasional Bukik Barisan Selatan talatak di ujuang selatan bantangan Bukik Barisan.

Ado 35 gunuang barapi aktif di Bukik Barisan. Gunuang barapi paliang gadang adolah Gunuang Toba dalam 100 km x 30 km Danau Toba, nan tabantuak sasudah runtuahnyo kaldera (dipakirokan 74.000 taun silam)[2] Erupsi dipakirokan ado pado level salapan manuruik skala VEI, kamungkinan paliang gadang untuak erupsinyo.
